Eye Cream – Do We Really Need It??

As Skin Therapists, we know we go on about the importance of cleansing, exfoliating, applying serums, sunscreens, moisturisers etc and how overwhelming it can be for our clients especially if they are just starting to get into a skincare regime. We always recommend those new to skincare to start off slow with your basic few products and gradually add to it as you get used to having a skincare routine both morning and night.

One thing we hear a lot from clients is that they don’t need an eye cream because they just use their moisturiser there anyways. This is okay for a short period of time however professional skin companies don’t create eye creams just as a marketing ploy to generate more revenue. A lot of research goes into the skin and the skin in certain areas of the body so that they can create the best potion for those areas and different conditions and concerns that arise.

Most clients concerns for the eye area is dark circles, pigmentation, fine lines and puffiness.  These concerns are different to the rest of our face and body which is one reason eye cream are needed.  The skin around the eye area is much thinner than the skin on the rest of our face. It also gets much more of a workout than most of the skin on our body but it is more fragile which is why eye creams are made to target the orbital area alone.  Normal face moisturisers and serums are too heavy for the eye area which can cause milia over time to form or cause your makeup to run. Aside from that, since the skin is thinner, your normal moisturisers and serums can actually penetrate too far and cause sensitivity such as stinging and watery eyes which isn’t exactly comfortable.  Eye creams still deliver amazing ingredients to where it’s needed however they are formulated at a lower dosage than regulars creams for the rest of the face to avoid irritation.

So essentially, yes! Eye creams are necessary as a part of your daily routine both morning and night. There are soooo many out there available to us which can be overwhelming to try and figure out which is the right one for you so always be sure to go to your trusted Therapists because believe me as we have tried them all!
